"BBC Radio Five Live asked for help from a deaf lip reader, Jessica Rees, who read the words phonetically to an Italian translator.
She deciphered the insult as being "you're the son of a terrorist whore" - a translation also carried by many national newspapers in Britain on Tuesday."
FIFA fair play indeed.

Here's Materazzi's version:
''I did insult him, it's true,'' Materazzi said in Tuesday's Gazzetta dello Sport. ''But I categorically did not call him a terrorist. I'm not cultured and I don't even know what an Islamic terrorist is.''
The 32-year-old Inter Milan player did not elaborate exactly on what he said to Zidane.
''It was one of those insults you're told tens of times and that always fly around the pitch,'' he said.

I've seen a few other interprations; a Brazilian outlet's lip reader thought Materazzi called Zidane's sister a whore.
Between the reputation and history of Italian soccer, Zidane's ethnicity and Materazzi's ludicrouis claim that he's never even heard of terrorism, I'm more than willing to believe this version.
