I followed through on an idle threat to file my tax returns early this year, and managed to bang them out last night.
I came within about $200 of an estimated sales tax deduction being larger than the standard deduction on the federal form.
Fucking Chicago.

No, TurboTax / the IRS have some tables that estimate how much you would have spent on sales tax given your income and the tax rate in your city. Given that Chicago's sales tax and its tax on car purchases are both pound-me-in-the-ass exorbitant, I almost got there.
